GUYS. I'M BACK WRITING ABOUT INDYCAR.
Are you as excited as I am? I bet not because I am SO EXCITED.
You know how much I love writing about IndyCar so it has pained me to not have the time. I've written some pretty great blogs in my head y'all. It's a shame you never got to read them. Ha.
I wrote a blog yesterday about why I haven't been writing so if you didn't read it and you are curious go give it a read here.
Anyways, as busy as I've been its been harder than usual to keep up on all the IndyCar things that go on, but I think I've been doing a pretty good job considering the circumstances. I mean, I do have a lot of Robin Miller's Mailbags to catch up on and I may or may not be two weeks behind on the week in IndyCar podcast, but I'm trying my best!
Okay, to my point. Since I've missed out on writing about IndyCar over the past few months I just wanted to give my thoughts on some of the happenings.
So lets get to it.
Mainly I just have silly season news I want to talk about because a lot has been happening. So where do I even start?
How about the Harding Steinbrenner combination. (Also, I need an acronym for the team ASAP so I don't have to keep spelling Steinbrenner. Is there one yet? Some one let me know if there is. HSR????)
Not that any of us were surprised, but I'm really excited about this team. Especially now that they have switched to Honda engines because it eliminated the sketchy parts of that deal and the Andretti affiliations.
And you know me, I'm pumped for any opportunity to bring new young talent to the series.
I mean really I'm starting to feel old and I'm only 22.
Both Colton Herta and Patricio O'Ward are like 18 or 19 years old and then you've got George Steinbrenner IV who is the same freaking age as me and he has his own IndyCar team. Like what. I'd just be happy to have a paying job, man.
And then we've got the most controversial addition to the paddock, Santino Ferrucci who is only 20 years old.
I am not one of the people who are upset that Coyne hired him. I think that everyone deserves a second chance. That being said, he better know that IndyCar won't tolerate whatever went on in F2. I think he's got some talent, he just needs to learn how to handle himself appropriately.
But also, he's 20 years old so its kind of expected. I live on a college campus. I know what 20 year old guys are like so I don't have very high expectations.
And just gotta say, I'm already getting some strong vibes from Santino that remind me a lot of Sage Karam. And for those that know my feeling about Sage Karam know that they are not really sentimates that are appropriate for me to publicly share in my blog.
So lets change the topic and talk about some other young guys in the paddock: Ed Jones and Jordan King.
I was so bummed that King was leaving ECR, I think he had great potential with the continuity that could have provided. And I'm even more bummed that he wasn't able to get a full time ride, but at least we will get to see him debut at the Indy 500 in May.
As for Jones, we all knew he wasn't going to be returning to Ganassi, which was a bummer. I'm honestly really disappointed in Ganassi for letting him go after only a year. And yeah yeah I know he wasn't their first second or third choice last year, but still, he's got potential. But whatever, no one ever listens to me.
At least ECR was (somewhat) smart and scooped him up, but at the expense pf Jordan King. Still a tad bitter tbh.
But on the bright side, I think Spencer Pigot and Jones will be great teammates.
So let's talk about why Ganassi let Jones go: they were finally able to get ahold of Felix Rosenqvist. (why couldn't any of the new drivers have easy names to spell??)
So I really don't know much about Felix, but if Ganassi decided to sign him he's got to be good. Gotta support their five time champ!
Okay, lets wrap this thing up with one last topic: Marcus Ericsson.
Before SPM announced that Ericsson would be driving the #7 I had no idea who he was, but I have to say he has certinally caught my attention.
And by that I mean that he not at all bad to look at.
That being said I am really interested to see if he's got the skills on the track cause then he could be the complete package. Haha
As terrible that it is that Robert Wickens won't be returning to the car anytime soon, I'm glad that SPM is taking this opportunity to hire some fresh new talent into the series. And I admire that Ericsson is not driving Wickens entry, the #6, but instead will be driving the #7. It just goes to show how much SPM loves Wickens. We are all wishing him a speedy recovery. It's been great to see the progress he's been making in rehab.
If you got this far, thanks for reading my blog, I appreciate it. I hope that this was interesting or entertaining enough that you will come back and read again because I sure do love writing for y'all. Even if no one reads them I still like to write them. (But I know people actually read them, I've got analytics guys, I'm a professional, sorta.)
And for those readers who have been waiting for me to write an IndyCar blog for over three months, thanks for being patient. You're the bomb.
Can you tell I haven't written in forever? I just can't stop.
Sorry. Till next time.
