Why the IndyCar Finale should be in the Midwest

Hey y'all, welcome back to my blog!

If I'm being completely 100% honest with y'all I almost didn't write a blog this week. I know right. Crazy stuff.

I was super pumped on Sunday to write about the Toronto race, but then life happened. It's been a busy week, blogging was on the bottom of my to do list.

So tonight, when I was considering what to do when I finally had some free time I really didn't want to write a blog, but I figured I should because, well, because I should.

So here I am. I'm jamming to some tunes and I'm gonna get my write on.

Long enough of an intro for ya'll? Ha and I haven't even told you what I'm going to write about.

Since I'm behind the ball on writing about the Toronto race I figured I would write about something else: why I think the IndyCar finale should end in the midwest.

I know I'm probably being redundant, but I have a strong opinion so I'm going to write about it.

Now, I'm writing this as an IndyCar fan that lives in the midwest. Thats it. I'm not taking into consideration sponsorship dates and all that. I'm only coming from the perspective that the season should end in the midwest from a fan perspective.

As most of you probably know it was announced this week that the 2019 IndyCar finale will take place at Laguna Seca.

I have no problem with Sonoma being off the schedule and being replaced by Laguna.

But I do take issue with Laguna Seca being the finale.

I was getting so pumped hearing talks of the finale being at Gateway.

I thought it would have been great.

But now thats not happening and I am bummed.

There are several reasons why I'm bummed.

#1: We have no idea what the racing is going to be like at Laguna Seca.

I don't know about you, but if I was one of the drivers in contention for the championship at the last race, I wouldn't want that race to take place at a race course that has just been added to the schedule.

I think thats just poor thinking on IndyCar's fault.

The season finale should be a finale.

Is Laguna Seca going to provide thrilling racing that the fans are going to love?

We don't know, which is exactly my point.

#2: The IndyCar season needs to end in the midwest.

Let me say it again for all the people in the back: THE INDYCAR SEASON NEEDS TO END IN THE MIDWEST.

I don't care if it's on a road course, a street course, or an oval, the season just needs to end in the midwest.

Why?

Fans. Thats why.

There are IndyCar fans all over, I'm very aware of that fact, but the majority of the IndyCar fans are located in the midwest.

I mean, hello, Indianapolis is the racing capitol of the world. Need I say much more?

Let me get at this from a more personal angle.

For me, taking a trip to California on a weekend in September to see the IndyCar finale is never going to happen.

I'm a teacher, I will always be teaching.

Two years ago I won FREE tickets to the Sonoma race and couldn't use them because I was in school and I also did not have the money to spend on a plane ticket to California.

If it would have been a midwest race I would have driven there in a heartbeat.

Which brings me to my next point.

MIDWEST FANS WILL DRIVE TO A MIDWEST LOCATED FINALE.

I would LOVE to attend the IndyCar finale. I would have given anything to have seen Josef Newgarden crowned the new champion.

But that is never going to be a possibility for me unless the season end in the midwest.

I'm pretty sure I'm not the only fan that feels this way.

I think that if you bring the race to our area, we will all come.

I know I will.

And with that, I rest my case.
