I'm 21 and still obsessed with the movie Spirit

Updated: Dec 11, 2021

Hey everyone, welcome back to my blog!

This week I wanted to talk with y'all about one of my favorite movies: Spirit.

Some of you may know of this movie and some may not, so it is my mission to make sure that everyone watches Spirit and experiences it's wonder at some point in their life.

So what is Spirit about?

Well let me tell ya, Spirit is the tale of a young stallion horse in the old wild west. We travel along with Spirit along his journey which starts when he encounters humans for the first time. Spirit is a wild horse that will not and cannot be tamed. He never gives up despite whatever circumstance faces him. He aims to protect his heard and his friends.

The movie was released in 2002, I was six years old and horse obsessed, so naturally, I loved Spirit.

I saw it in the theaters at least twice, and I remember seeing it for the second time and getting excited telling a newcomer "here comes Rain!"

My cousin Brady and I were both horse obsessed children (he was about 3 or 4 at the time of the movies release).

So we became obsessed with the movie Spirit as we did with any other thing horse related.

I had Spirit bed sheets.

I had movie related action figures and toys.

My uncle Dave painted a mural in Brady and Andrews playroom of Spirit and Rain and I was so jealous. It was so cool. I still wish that they lived in that house so that it could still exist today.

Spirit has three main characters, Spirit, Little Creek (a Native American that Spirit encounters), and Rain, little Creek's American painted horse.

Rain was my favorite character and Spirit was Bradys.

One of my favorite pictures of Brady and I is from the day my mom gave Brady and I our Spirit and Rain stuffed animals.

We are laying on the couch with my Spirit pillow cuddling with our new stuffed animals watching Spirit.

We were clearly obsessed.

Okay, so some of you are probably wondering whats so great about this horse movie?

What makes it different than any other horse movie?

Well, let me tell you.

In the past month I have watched Spirit twice.

Yes, I'm serious. And I had to convince myself not to watch it many times.

Upon watching it for the first time in many years I was reminded why the movie is so great.

The movie has little talking so it really makes you stop what you are doing and pay attention.

Periodically through the movie you get Spirit to narrate and the human's in the movie talk. But besides those times the communication happens silently though body language and, well, horse neighing.

You have to watch the expressions and movements of the horses to understand what they are saying.

Just by watching them you are able to understand what the horses are saying to each other and it's just great.

Like I'm kinda curious as to how I was able to pick up on everything that was happening in the movie as a child. I'm pretty impressed with my young self.

Maybe I just spoke horse and thats how I understood it all.

But yeah, you can just see the emotions on the horses faces and you feel their emotions with them you really do.

This movie allows you to emotionally connect to these horses and its magical I tell ya.

IT'S SUCH A GOOD MOVIE YOU GUYS I CAN'T EVEN.

And Spirit is such a great character, he doesn't take anything from anyone. But then he encounters these new characters and he bends his ways a little bit as he begins to care for these characters.

And lets be real, Spirit is just a bad ass horse.

And then theres Rain, she shows Spirit that its okay to give way everyone in awhile and let people (and horses) in.

You guys just need to watch the movie. I'm telling you. You can't fully grasp the wonderfulness of Spirit without watching the movie.

I just love it so much from the bottom of my heart.

NOW GO WATCH SPIRIT.
