Hey peeps! Welcome back to my blog!
It's that time of year again, time for IndyCar mis season reviews! I've broken these blog up into five different sections that will be released periodically.
So lets get to it!
Andretti Autosports/Herta
Overall, the Andretti/Herta team has been having a pretty solid year.
Two out of their four drivers have already scored wins this year and are in contention for the championship.
The past couple seasons they haven't really been showing their dominance as one of the big three teams anymore and I was questioning weather they even should be considered one of the big three anymore. But this year they have showed that they deserve to be in that big three. They have really stepped up their game and I'm impressed. I really think they have a chance at scoring a championship this year.
Rossi
I saw glimmers of Rossi's talent last season, as I think we all did. And we were not surprised by his win at Watkins Glen.
But this season he is really something else.
Every race weekend he has shown that he is one of the guys to beat- consistently.
I had known Rossi was talented, but this season he's just shocked me with his talent.
I think after last season, doing well at Indy and then scoring a second win he was able to push past all the negative things being said about him and his Indy 500 victory. He was able to show people that he isn't just the rookie driver who won the Indy 500 on a fuel strategy. He's Alexander Freaking Rossi, super talented IndyCar championship contender who is becoming the passing master on ovals and can crush anyone on a street course.
Rossi has only made one mistake so far this season, that being at race 2 in Detroit. Therefore, his midseason grade is a A-.
Marco
Marco is having the best season he's had in years. I don;t know if we should chalk it up to switching complete over to the Herta team for that this new aero package really suits him, or maybe its a combination of the both. Either way, Marco is having a decent season so far.
I mean the guy scored his first pole in years at race one at Detroit. That's saying something.
I mean I'm not becoming a Marco fan again, but I do hope that his decent continue. I mean can things really go worse for him then they have the past couple years?
Midseason grade: C
Ryan Hunter Reay
After Long Beach I was convinced that someone had put a curse on RHR. The guy just seams to have the worst luck.
But then we went to Barber and he was able to score a podium and this started to look up.
And then at race two at Detroit RHR was able to take the win away from Rossi and claim his first victory in years.
Things have started to look up for RHR and I can only hope that they will continue to go up. The guys is a great racer and has continued to show his talent this season- with or without bad luck getting in the way.
Rossi's been looking like he's becoming the #1 driver in the Andretti team, but it appears that RHR isn't ready to give up that position without a fight.
So Rossi, if Detroit race two wasn't warning enough, you better watch your back.
Midseason grade: B
Zach Veach
I was really happy to see Andretti sign a rookie to their team, it's been awhile since they've had a rookie.
And I'm sure glad they did (and I'm sure they are too) because Zach Veach has been showing what he's got to offer in IndyCar and its rather impressive.
As much as I was glad that Andretti signed a rookie I wasn't sure if Veach was going to have anything to give in his first season based on his previous Indy 500 run.
But he proved me wrong thats for sure.
At most races he's there and competitive. He races smart, which is a wonderful quality in a rookie.
In my book he ranks #1 in the rookie of the year running (not counting Robert Wickens of course).
Midseason grade: B-
AJ Foyt Racing
Part of me still wants to be mad at Foty for letting go of Conor Daly, but halfway though the season I cannot really be mad anymore.
All Foyt wants is to have a competitive, successful IndyCar team. And I too want that for the IndyCar Legend.
They are defiantly on the upswing this year thats for sure. And it's about time.
Matheus Lesit
At the beginning of the season I was very skeptical of Matheus Leist. I thought he was too ambitious and was bound to crash frequently, which he did.
But half way thought the season I've changed my tune a bit.
I'm still not a Leist fan, but I respect the guy, he's proven to me thus far that he has a lot of talent.
I think that if he has a couple of years to really hone his skills he could be a pretty good driver, especially if he continues to have TK alongside him.
Midseason grade: C+
Tony Kannan
I don't really know what to say about Tony Kannan because I don't have anything new to say about him.
When it comes to him I probably sound like a broken record.
I love the guy, he's a legend in the sport.
The guy can drive the wheels of a car, especially on a oval.
But he hasn't won a race or pole in years and he hasn't been very consistent.
And if I'm being 100% honest, off the top of my head I couldn't tell you where he finished in any of the races so far this season or any memorable moments he's had.
So I won't say anything more.
Midseason Grade: C
Well guys, that's it for today. Part 2 will be out to you shortly.
