IndyCar Mid Season Reviews: Part 2

Hey everyone welcome back to my blog!

Let get right to it with week two of my IndyCar mid season reviews!

Ganassi

I think Ganassi defiantly took a bit of a hit this season going down to two cars from four. A bigger hit that I initially thought would occur anyways. I wouldn't say they struggled the first half of the season, I mean Scott Dixon was always there, but he's Scott Dixon.

You really didn't hear much about Ganassi all throughout the beginning of the season.

But now, at the halfway point they seamed to have gotten their footing back and are on the uprise.

Scott Dixon

Like I mentioned in the Ganassi overview, we didn't really hear much about Ganssi int eh first half of the season; and the same goes toward Scott Dixon.

Yes, Dixon was always there are is always competitive, but he wasn't one of the talked about drivers at each race.

He just blended into the background.

And I think he caught on to that and decided he needed to do something about it.

I mean two wins in a week?

And going from tied for third on the all time wins list to the sole person in third on the all time win list will defiantly get people to talk about you.

At the half way point Scott Dixon is making sure he is the driver everyone is talking about.

And after his wins at Detroit and Texas going into Road America he's capitalizing on that ride as we come to a course that Dixon is always great at.

If the last two races are any indication of what we're going to see from Dixon in the rest of the season y'all better watch out.

The iceman is coming for ya.

Midseason review: B+

Ed Jones

I was absolutely stoked to hear that Ed Jones would be joining Ganassi this season.

I think he has some serious talent.

Although his first season at Ganassi hasn't been a breakout year, it hasn't been particularly bad either.

Just kind of blending in like I already explained.

Jones hasn't been as consistent this season as he was last year, but I still see a ton a potential. He has two podium finishes to back my argument.

Midseason review: B-

Dale Coyne Racing

Dale Coyne Racing has become the talk of the paddock over the past two seasons.

I mean when you add Sebastian Bourdais to your line up its bound to happen.

Last year was a tough year for Coyne and they've come back this season stronger than ever.

They are a small team that is able to give the big teams a run for their money.

Sebastien Bourdais

After missing most of last season, Set came back this season stronger and more competitive then ever.

After winning the first race of the season at St. Pete Bourdias has shown that he can be comeptive at whatever track he goes to.

At times, he's been one of the few Honda's who's been able to break up a chevy party.

He is responsible for making Dale Coyne Racing a competitive team race after race after race.

The guy is in it to win it.

Race after race he's consistent.

Everyone should fear the french fry.

Midseason Grade: B+

Zachary Claman De Melo

ZCD has been one of the most impressive rookies to enter the field this season.

For the most part he's been consistent.

And he's fast and he's got the skills.

I think with a full time multi year ride the guy could really make something of himself.

Pietro Fittipalid

I really don't have much to go off of to give Pietro a proper grade.

So I'll just wish him a get well soon and hopefully I'll have something to say about him t the end of the season.

Schmidt Peterson Motorsports

You guys, I was so excited to write about SPM that I switched their slot from part four to part two.

At the beginning of the season I think we were all a little bit afraid for SPM this season.

They had overhauled their staff, hired some other guy from Canada with no IndyCar experience to a multi year deal, and they were slow at all of the test.

Well, one things for sure, SPM sure has impressed me this season.

Signing Robert Wickens was one of the best things that SPM could have ever done for their team. Having a second competitive driver and a legitamit teammate for Hinch I think has made a world of difference for their team.

I am so impressed with how competitive SPM has been so far this season. I can't wait to see what the rest of the season brings for them.

James Hinchcliffe

I believe this season to be the strongest start to a season that James Hinchcliffe has had in years.

I mean besides the whole not making the Indy 500 thing Hinch has had a pretty good season.

I think that if he hadn't lost the but load of points he did for missing the 500 he would be a major championship contender.

Hinch has been more consistent then ever this season and I've been impressed.

I think having a real teammate has really helped Hinch become a better, stronger, competitive driver.

I mean if your childhood best friend and your new teammate shows up to his first IndyCar race and wins the pole and almost goes out and wins the thing I think it would light a fire under anyone's ass.

Midseason grade: B

Robert Wickens

When SPM announced that their were signing Robert Wickens I was skeptical.

I didn't think the guy was going to be able to be competitive in IndyCar.

Well, he decided that he wanted to show us all who he was when he went out and won the pole at St. Pete.

And just incase we weren't all sure of his talent quite yet he decided to go out and almost win the whole race.

And several races after that.

Robert Wickens has done nothing less than impress me this season.

Race after race he's gone out there and qualified well and then hung out in the top ten for the duration of the race.

He's made very few mistakes considering he's a "rookie".

I am so glad to have him in IndyCar. He's going to do great things in the sport and I cannot wait to cheer him on while he's doing it.

Midseason grade: B+

Well, that wraps up part 2. If you haven't already concluded so, I'm a pretty easy grader. whoops. I try, but I just love these drivers and I love writing these mid season reviews. I've been smiling the whole time.
